File Extension BUP Information, tips and instructions |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
File Extension BUPBUP is associated to the backup files created on a DVD. It is used as an alternative for VIDEO_TS.IFO files just in case the file is unreadable by the player. Applications are designed to support BUP files under operating system platforms Mac, and Windows. When opening movie files on a DVD, folders labeled VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS are present. The VIDEO_TS folder most likely will contain three types of files; *.BUP, *.IFO, and *.VOB. Some DVDs may contain *.VRO files instead of a *.VOB. The .IFO files contain information about the location of the main video files such as the chapters, audio settings, tracks, and subtitles among other information. BUP files contain similar information stored on an IFO file. They have similar file sizes and can be opened by similar applications. Aside from the standard VIDEO_TS.IFO, a disk may contain files labeled randomly as VTS_01_0, VTS_02_0, and so on. A BUP file can simply be renamed to a IFO for direct reference by the player. Threats are not common to BUP files, but some worms are designed to harvest information from files including those with *.bup extension along with other known file extensions on most computers. Applications such as Apple DVD Studio Pro, CyberLink PowerDVD, InterVideo WinDVD, Windows Media Player, and Nero ShowTime can open files with BUP extension. Generic DVD players can also open these files when linking for the real video files. Similar file extensions
